May-June, 2003

After coming off of the San Francisco Walk of Fame ceremony, JOURNEY stepped right up to the plate and kicked off their summer tour with Styx and REO Speedwagon at their side. In order to promote the CRME (Classic Rock’s Main Event) tour, members of all three bands hit the airwaves on Wednesday, May 7th on Rockline. They took questions from fans all over the country and answered them, and they talked about the tour that they were about to embark on. Kevin Cronin (of REO) had said the shows would run about 4 and a half hours long.

Also in May, Journeyswag added some new merchandise including Walk of Fame T-shirts, vintage Neal Schon photographs, & 2003 Tour merchandise which included T-shirts, bandanas, and a license plate frame that says, “I’d rather be at a Journey concert.” Wouldn’t we all?? Be sure to check out all the swag at www.journeyswag.com.

Any Robert Fleischman fans out there? Well, be sure to check out the official homepage of Robert Fleischman at www.robertfleischman.com. Also, Capitol records will be reissuing 2 Vinnie Vincent Invasion albums. The first one features Robert Fleischman on lead vocals. Originally they were supposed to be re-released June 24th, but got pushed back to July 8th.

Steve “Smitty” Smith was featured on the cover of Modern Drummer magazine in May. Inside, it discussed his DVD Drum Set Technique/History of the US Beat. It was rated #1 in the reader’s poll. Also, Smitty was voted #2 in the best All-Around Drummer and Contemporary Jazz categories.

There was some baby news in the world of Journey. Not for the band themselves, but for the drummer of the New York-based tribute band Worlds Apart, Tim Szlosek. He and his wife welcomed their baby girl, Mackenzie Irene, on May 19th at 11:09 am. Way to Tim!! Hey wait, that’s my birthday too!

Any Denver Journey fans out there? Well, according to the Denver Post, the band played a one-hour show at a bar. Apparently, the band was invited to play, but the owner was unsure if they would show or not. Well, the band showed up after all and surprised him and about 150 lucky patrons. This is every JOURNEY fan's dream!! Also, apparently Neal jumped behind the bar and began serving up drinks. Neal, I’ll take a tall Sam Adams please.

Steve Perry…. whatever happened to him? Well, anyone waiting to hear from him has finally struck gold. Why, you ask? Well, Melodicrock.com reported that Mr. Perry “accidentally” sung on a track for Jeff Golub’s new album Soul Sessions. The record is due for release sometime in August. For more information on this and other Jeff Golub news, check out www.jeffgolub.com

Steve Smith also gave an exclusive interview to Jrnydv.Com in mid-May, published in early June.

First there was the San Francisco walk of fame, now comes the Hollywood Walk of Fame! On June 19th it was announced that our band has been selected to receive their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame by the HWF committee. Other musical artists include Jose Jose, Nancy Sinatra, and Britney Spears. No date has been set as of yet for the ceremony, but as always, we’ll keep you posted.

On June 27th, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle opened nationwide in theaters. Be sure to check out the soundtrack for the movie. JOURNEY’s "Any Way You Want It" is featured, sandwiched between Bon Jovi’s "Living on a Prayer" and The Beach Boys' "Surfer Girl."

Lastly, on June 30, JourneyDigest.Com published part one of their exclusive interview with Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain.

As always, be sure to check out all the tour dates on the tour dates page to see where JOURNEY (and just about everybody else) will be playing in a city near you. This is SCARAB49 signing off for now. As always, JOURNEY ON MY FRIENDS!!!
